Opened January 1995, Hotel 1492 wanted to share its beauty and peace with the lovers of the good taste and
history. Originally, the hotel was called Jade y Oro. Located in a safe and quiet residential area “Barrio
Escalante”, one of the first neighborhoods beginning 1940´s, with parking lot ideal for the passengers
traveling with car, it is close to San Jose, downtown.
1492 named after the Discovery of the New World, which represents the blend of cultures.
The tourist that arrives to Costa Rica with its own cultural background will experience the welcoming of
another culture, the Costarrican culture with the Spanish architecture and the pre-Columbian paintings in
its natural surroundings, the guest will enjoy a particular peace, and comfort at the hotel; it is a cozy
and lavishly decorated Spanish-style building originally built as a private residence; it has been
beautifully restored and comfortably furnished as a small hotel. Built in l941, the house retains its
original structure and design, with its high ceilings, inner archways, chimney and original Portuguese
tile floors and bright tropical flowers. Decorated by the original owner, Amalia Jimenez Volio, an artist
who grew up in the house, who added a cheerful tropical touch to the house's colonial sobriety, filling
its inner courtyards with colorful, modern furniture, typical Costa Rican crafts and paintings of her own,
featuring mostly tropical flower motifs. Also she painted a colorful ecological and pre-Columbian mural
separating it from the property next door that makes the Hotel easy to find.
1492 hotel is operated and managed by a Costarrican family, the house has been in the family for 3
generations, fully personalized attention. Our guest are our main mission, this brings us to the unique
opportunity to get to know our guests personally and make their stay “ the ideal lodging experiences as
they begin to explore the rest of Costa Rica”.
Ten rooms with private hot water bathrooms, showers only, with amenities and hair dryer in each bathroom.
Seven rooms are single with a queen-sized bed, and three deluxe rooms have two or three queen-sized beds.
With ceiling fans, no air conditioning is needed. Children are welcomed, as well as well behaved pets.

There is color cable TV, telephone, and security boxes at no additional cost in each room, as well as 24-hour
security and medical assistance.
Full typical Breakfast includes a variety of fruits, typical food, tea, and delicious Costa Rican Coffee.
Served in our Typical Ranch in front of the garden, among the breakfast menu we offer, French toasts,
pancakes, eggs and Gallo pinto, all with your choice of fresh fruits or juice.
We offer an evening complimentary glass of wine and cheese snacks.
HOTEL 1492 is ideal for Senior travelers since it is one floor building with spacious rooms and
comfortable bathrooms. It is located eight blocks walking distance to downtown and in a very secure
neighborhood.
